Bedding is a simple, common, and affordable addition to any home. It’s also an essential part of any home’s decor. Homeowners can choose from a variety of different materials to decorate their walls, including hardwood, glass, ceramic, and stone. There are a variety of different techniques for decorating a bedroom wall, so you can decide how much time, money, and creativity you have available to you. Some people just go with the obvious color and wall design. Others consider wall art a kind of filter for the world’s most beautiful eyes. And still, others take a little creative license. Read on to know how to decorate a bedroom wall.
1. Mismatched Art
As far as how to decorate a bedroom wall, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Ideally, you will have the same artwork on each wall that you do on your walls. But if not, there are plenty of ways to go about this. Some people opt for a more traditional look while others may go with an abstract style. And while there is nothing wrong with a little design in moderation, it is definitely not enough to compensate for the lack of art. So how do you decide what images to use?
For this particular fence, I used a digital camera and some lights. So, the general rule is this: If you have room for it, take the shots. If the images don’t come out great, you can always redo them. If you decide you want to try a different approach, feel free to do so. But for the most part, you are going to use the images we have on our walls.
2. Wall-To-Wall Frames
In this case, we are using the walls between our bedroom and bathroom as a frame. The frame can be painted any color you like, but white is my go-to for this frame. The white frames match the walls beautifully. However, there are a few things to keep in mind before getting started. First, make sure you have the room ready. If you’re doing this in a couple of days, it’s a good idea to make sure all your supplies are ready. You don’t want to make a mess when you are decorating your bedroom fence. So make sure you have everything pre-warmed up before starting. And last, but not least, make sure all your lights are on before starting this project. Once you have everything you need, begin!
3. Sentimental Display
In this case, we are using walls in a neutral or blues color to create a kind of handmade trade show. We call this the “Sentimental Display”. To decorate a bedroom wall, there are a few techniques you can go about creating a kind of handmade display using walls. One technique is to use classic fence decor and modern addition for contrast. Another way is to use fabric or fabric pieces that you have lying around the house. You can use these pieces to create a delightful sentiment on the walls. Or you can go with a fabric that matches the room in which it is placed. One tip is to use starch and water-based paint. This will keep your walls from brightening up too much once they are finished decorating. So, if you want to stay on-trend, stick to this method!
4. Up-cycled Art
Here is one technique that I know people are going to love to do but have been putting off for years. We call this the “Bedroom Mural”. The bedroom fence can be painted a neutral or dark color. Once the color has been chosen, the process begins. You will want to strip away any excess fabric or other decorative pieces in the room while you are working on this project. Then, when the walls are all done turning, you will want to create an Upcycled Art piece. Using free-form art, you will want to create a striking design that matches the walls and adds character to the room. Up-cycled art is great when you want to create a decorative room but don’t have the space for an art space. This can be a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, or other space in your house.
5. The Bedroom Mural
Here is where things get creative. We call this the “Bedroom Mural”. You will want to turn the walls from white to gray and then add some light using dark gray paint. Once the gray paint is dry, you will want to turn the walls a vibrant color. You will want to do this for a couple of reasons. First, the walls can be used as a platform for the addition of an Upcycled Art piece. Second, you will want to add a bit of character to this space by adding some upcycled or vintage fabrics. A great way to do this is with a 350+ square foot DIY home office.
6. On-Theme Collection
Here is where you go against the grain and create a collection of art on the walls. This can be a gallery or collage, a design dating back to one of your ancestors, or a collection of random pieces you have. One great idea I have is to create a collection of vintage pendants, lights, or whatever other objects you have that remind you of that period in your life. Then, when you decide you want to add an Upcycled Art piece, you can easily take that pendant and toss it in the air like a ragdoll.
7. Abstract Wall Art
Here is one technique that is well known for making. Everywhere from walls to window treatments but is rarely or never used. The doorframe can become the center of attention. This can be done with fabric or various metals that line the walls. This can be used to create an abstract fence design. Apart from the doorframe, you can use one of the other elements. Such as a picture frame, canvas, or even a wooden table if you are so inclined.
8. Over-sized Art
Here is one technique that is well known for making. The most out of a single room but is rarely used. The walls can be adorned with up to 2M square panels at a time. This can be done in a variety of styles, colors, and fabrics. Apart from the walls, you can also create an oversized painting on the fence or stage an event with a vintage organ or light show. The possibilities are really endless!
9. Multipurpose Designs
Here are a few ideas that might be a little out of reach for some. Some people like to use their bedroom as an office or an art studio. Others like to use it as a nursery. For these people, to decorate a bedroom fence, there are a few different ways to go about creating an office space. One way is to use a traditional chestnut or walnut table to hold all the things you need to do your work. Another way is to use a modern wooden or plastic desk with a raised platform to avoid having to lift and move your feet when doing workstation-like tasks. Another way is to use a piece of furniture with a purpose other than adding decorative trim or lights.
10. Wall Tapestries
Here is one technique that I know people are going to love to do but have been putting off for years. We call this the “Wall Tapestry”. The fence can be painted a single color or a combination of colors. You will want to start the tapestry back from the floor. This can be a traditional wall or an upcycled fabric. You will want to use a single color or a mix of colors to create a unique effect. The tapestry can be a central part of the bedroom fence design or left to take up a separate space.
11. Wooden Accent Wall
The walls in your bedroom are one of the most important parts of the house. It’s where you spend the most time, so it’s important to choose fence art that represents who you are. Wooden accents are a great way to do that. Depending on your budget, you can also choose to purchase fabric pieces, posters, or wall hangings to add that extra personal touch. Wooden accents can be a perfect choice for a bedroom fence, as they’re inexpensive and easy to make.
First, you’ll need to cut one or two panels from the decorated wall. You can use the piece or cut it in half so that the sections come together easily. Then you’ll need to glue and nail the panels together while they remain jointed. After that, you can finish the job with a low-cost paint job. If you choose to paint the walls, you’ll need to adhere to a few rules about materials. Avoid using hardwoods like cedar or pine as these will affect the rest of the house, and you don’t want to end up with a pockmarked fence because of it. Rather, go with a cheaper material that’s less expensive to buy and maintain like fabric.
12. Gallery Wall
If you have the space in your bedroom to spare, a gallery fence is a great addition. A gallery wall is usually made from wood and canvas. It’s an inexpensive way to add a personal touch to your bedroom walls. You can simply pick out a picture, create a grid, and place the pictures on the wall. Once you’ve chosen your celebrity or artistic prints, it’s time to decide where the pictures should go. Some people choose to stick with the themes of their nursery, while others add a subtle design that makes the pictures blend with other walls. Read on to learn how to decorate a bedroom wall with gallery walls.
First, you’ll need to cut four or five panels from the fence. This will give you the basics—four panels for the wall, and five more panels to glue to the fence. Then you’ll need to glue the panels together, and you can finish the job with a low-cost paint job. Another option is to use a made–to–order (MTO) service that produces the panels you need. You can choose from a variety of designs, making it easy to pick the one you like best.
13. The Gallery Shelf
A bedroom wall can be a beautiful oasis of calm after a hectic day. A decorative shelf can be a great addition to this space, and you can choose from a variety of materials to choose from. Some people go with wooden boards, while others choose to use metal. Both types of boards work well with the volume of the fence art. To decorate a bedroom wall, it’s also important to consider the style and color that your bedroom fence will flow into. If you go with a retro design, you’ll want to be sure to keep the color scheme relevant to the era. On the other hand, if you want something more modern, you may want to stick with a color scheme that more closely reflects the modern bedroom.
14. Wallpaper
If you’re feeling ambitious, you can actually design a bedroom wall to look like art—if you let go of the rules. You can choose to make the walls a mix of different colors and styles. You can also choose to use a simple whiteboard or photo prints to add a modern touch to decorate your bedroom wall. Just make sure to keep the colors and designs simple so that they blend well with the rest of the walls. If the bedroom is a bit more artistic than that, you can always add more art directly on the fence.
15. Strategically-Placed Lighting
If your bedroom walls need more light, there’s something about placing lights just right—so you can see the art on the fence, but not so much that it over suggests itself to the naked eye. This is the essence of integrating low-cost lights with artistic themes—you can use the lights to illuminate the fence art, or you can use them to power a LED light bar. Some people go with the cheap, basic light bars, while others go with more expensive lights. For a budget-friendly light option, consider buying a single LED light bar from a Chinese light manufacturer.
16. Color-Blocked Walls
If you’re looking for a more modern bedroom fence design, you may want to consider color-blocking. This is a common technique for decorating wooden walls, and it’s also something you can do with your bedroom walls as well. You will need to apply a color to the plank wood, usually in the form of a color stain. Once you’ve applied the color, you’ll want to place it where you want it to hang, and you can finish the job with a low-cost paint job. If you choose to use color-blocking, you’ll need to adhere to specific rules about the color you choose. You can’t simply mix colors in the air, and that includes walls. You need to pick a color and stick it on the fence. That’s not good enough.
17. Framed Fabric
If you’re looking for an artistic and decorative bedroom wall design, you may want to consider frame fabrics. Frames are made from a variety of materials and are applied to the wall in one go. They’re inexpensive, easy to make and let you design the whole space with the room’s color scheme as a guide. You can choose from a variety of materials to choose from. One thing to keep in mind is that frame designs should be kept inconspicuous. They should blend well with other decor elements like wall sconces and lights.
Final Thoughts
You’re probably going to use your bedroom wall as a canvas when you decorate your walls. That’s what the gallery wall is for, after all, and the more art you leave out, the more room for your personality to shine through. Choosing the right color, the right design, and the right amount of light can really help you blend well with the room. Your bedroom wall should be your playground, where you can relax, reflect, and spend time with yourself. If you follow these tips, your bedroom wall will never be the same.
